A simple post-war structure, not of architectural or historic significance. The church is a chapel-of-ease, served from St James the Less, Colchester.

A Mass centre was established at Mile End in 1942, served from St James the Less Colchester. By 1944 Mass was being said at the Dog and Pheasant public house. The site of the present church was given by a local builder, and the church was built with the help of voluntary parish labour. It opened on 19 March 1950. It is a simple structure, built of Fletton bricks, with metal Crittall windows with opaque glass, and a corrugated asbestos roof. The interior has not been inspected.
