Youth homelessness charity marks 25th anniversary with appeal to Catholic community

Twenty-five years ago, the charity Depaul UK was set up in response to the growing number of young people sleeping rough on the streets across the country. A thanksgiving mass will celebrate the charity’s anniversary at 2pm on 27 September 2014 - the feast day of St Vincent de Paul - at Westminster Cathedral, presided over by the charity’s patron Cardinal Vincent Nichols.

Tilbury container death: Mass held for ferry crew

A Mass was held on Monday, 18 August, for the crew of the ferry on which a shipping container was found with 35 migrants at Tilbury port. The discovery has left the crew of the Norstream distressed and Catholic seafarers’ charity Apostleship of the Sea (AoS) is supporting them.

Bishop of the Forces calls for an end to the persecution of Christians and all minority groups in Iraq

The Bishop of the Forces, the Right Reverend Richard Moth has asked military chaplains to “offer Mass for those persecuted for their faith" on Sunday 31 August. "The crimes being committed against our brothers and sisters are heinous in the extreme and demand continuing humanitarian aid and increased diplomatic efforts from the world community that stability can be brought to the region."

Cardinal writes to the Foreign Secretary about unfolding disaster in Iraq

In a letter to the Foreign Secretary, Cardinal Nichols has “welcomed the humanitarian efforts” that the British government has made in Iraq over the past few days and has urged that the “relief operation” and “crucial diplomatic efforts” be increased.
