The Presbytery, Gateside Drive, Grange Park, Blackpool FY3 7PL.
A plain building, part of a major programme of church building in post-war Blackpool.
The church is of the same date, and by the same architects as St Bernadette, Blackpool, and forms part of the major post-war building programme in the town. Two years before the opening of Christ the King, Bishop Flynn had said (at the opening of the church of Our Lady of the Assumption): ‘We need churches…In Blackpool alone I need to provide two or three more churches as soon as possible. I have opened five temporary churches…in the last two or three years. I want others through the length and breadth of this large diocese’.
The building has a concrete portal frame and is clad in red brick in contrasting colours, treated to form patterns. These take the form of crosses at the east and west ends. Short tower and pitched roofs of Westmorland slate.
