A small octagonal church built in 1979, with a raised, side-lit sanctuary.

Before the establishment of the parish in 1970, Mass was said in the assembly hall of St Anne’s school. The present church was built in 1979 to a design by Henry J. Harper of Selly Park, Birmingham. Until November 2013, the church had its own parish priest; since then, it has been in the care of Corpus Christi, Coventry (qv).

Description

The church faces south. This description follows conventional orientation.

The church was built in 1979. It has an octagonal plan with flat-roofed ancillary spaces to the south and west. The external walls are of brick laid in stretcher bond, and the roof is tiled. There are two windows in the north walls, with stained glass depicting symbols of the Virgin Mary and St Patrick. Above the east end is a raised skylight, above the west end a sunken skylight. The altar and lectern are of marble, with a matching tabernacle stand. (The tabernacle was recently moved from the southeast to the centre.) The font is a silver bowl on an openwork iron stand. The Stations of the Cross (signed ‘VP’) are oil paintings by a Benedictine nun from Stanbrook Abbey, who also designed the tapestry of Christ over the sanctuary. Owing to Lent, all the statues were shrouded at the time of the visit.
