A parish census of 1961 had revealed a Catholic population of 2,600 and up to 700 people attending services at the church of Our Lady Star of the Sea at St Anne’s, a church designed to hold 400. St Alban’s was built in 1964 as a daughter church, from designs by Walters & Livesey. Rendered and glass walls, shallow pitched roof. Adjoining parish hall with monopitch roof. Interior not inspected.
